Destination: Managua Seventeen
of us had an incredible time traveling to Managua in June, 2008. This trip was extra special because we were able to
spend a full week with several different ministries, learning first hand of the many types of works being completed in Nicaragua.
On this web page are links to particular ministries that we are working with in Nicaragua. Please feel free to contact
us if you have an interest in participating with us in Hands and Feet Ministries. brett@costaricachurch.com
God's School The mission of God's School is to bring
ghope and love to a foresaken generation in Nicaragua. Mary Spires, the founder of this school says, "It is hard to tell
someone Jesus loves them when they are starving. First you feed them, then you tell them that God provided that food
because HE loves them. With that act of kindness a heart that has been hardened for years will soften right before your
eyes." God's
School currently feeds and educates over 150 children each day and provides a Children's Church program each and every Sunday
afternoon. C.A.L.T. CALT stands for Christian
Academy of Las Torres (www.caltnica.org). These folks make sure that the kids in this neighborhood get the proper education they need, but can't afford.
Currently, about 215 children attend this school. We were blessed to be able to repair leaky roofs
in three classrooms. Actually, they need a whole new roof, so we only supplied a short term solution until they can
raise the funds to put on an entire new roof. We were also able to build dividers for the classrooms that will better acommodate
the different grades. These kids get a great education and learn daily of God's love for them.

This was definitely the place that had the most impact on the group. Managua's city dump is the home of over 10,000 men, women, and children. They
spend their lives working and pilfering useful items that can be sold or recycled. The average lifespan for a male is
only 40 years due to respiratory disease. We had the opportunity to tour the dump with Pastor Vladimir. It was
amazing to watch this man work as he met people, hugged the children, and encouraged everyone with the love of Christ. Pastor Vladimir does everything he can do to minister to these
families. He even feeds a nutritious meal to around 120 children 3 days a week if funds permit. Our goal this
next year is to rebuild the feeding site so the children can have a little bit of shelter from the sun and rain.

Manchester Roofs Dirt floors and leaky roofs seem to be the status
quo in this neighborhood. Manchester is among the poorest barrios huddled up agains the polluted Lake Managua.
This area has no real infra-structure, no police protection, and no medical help. This truly is an area that has been
abandoned by the government, but not by Christians and their missions groups. There is a group out of Atlanta
who is raising funds for a ministry called, Operation Fix-A-Roof. They have teamed up with a local Pastor who lives
in this neighborhood and wants to help these families. Our desire is to team up with the neighborhood Pastor and this
group from Atlanta, and help them supply and install new tin roofs. They need lots of people-power and we have comitted
to helping him on our next trip in September.
